WITH THE NEW DOCK, REBORN PIAZZA XXIV May: ARIOSA, PEDESTRIAN, ALBERATA
BUT NOT MISSING THE CONTROVERSY OF RESIDENTS, BETWEEN AND DELAYS (ALLEGED) Discomfort
Could rename 23 March, if only because of the importance that this date has and will have in the history of an agora reopened after years of construction and delays. Piazza XXIV Maggio is shared, completely redesigned with LED lights and new trees, including 12 plantains, without failing to safeguard the monumental oak already in her lower. It is aimed to reduce traffic through a pedestrian area of 7.500 metri quadri (a total area of 19 thousand), which includes two toll and the door of the neoclassical Cagnola. The yard has also involved the relocation of underground utilities.
FESTIVAL – It is scheduled for 26 April the official opening, combined with the opening of the New Dock in which Milan will return to review the water, dopo anni di abbandono ed incuria. Palazzo Marino is still working to organize a big party with live music, street artists and the active participation of associations and traders in the area. The basin was dry in 2004, when work began on the construction of a mega parking wanted by the junta Albertini, eventually no longer made. Now the dock will become a location for walking: the new municipal market, you will come to the bridge to connect Viale Gorizia Viale D'Annunzio. Along the way there will be benches, un punto di ristoro e gli storici barconi, who will return to travel the canals. The contribution of Expo 2015 was instrumental in the restoration of the whole area, with a total funding of 17 million euro.
DISPUTE? – The new Piazza XXIV Maggio retains some old blocks of stone, integrated with new porphyry cubes laid in accordance with the classical scheme of the original project. Some residents already complain, however, the irregularity of the pedestrian level and fatigue when walking over the new granite. Small "complaint" that will not stop the next steps, concerning the return of the tram and the cars around the intersection from 16 April: the path of the line 2 will be protected by bollards, the so-called "Parisian", in both directions will be completed by that date and also works for the reopening of the canal Ticinello, rediscovered after being buried in the '30s.
LATE – It does not end here: was completed the rehabilitation of the bank on the side of Viale Gorizia thanks to a new retaining wall and ended the restoration of the two bridges that ensured access to Milan from the south. In origin, the square would have to see the light already last 24 February: il ritardo è dipeso dalla complessità dei lavori per la riorganizzazione dei sottoservizi, which were renewed every so no need to go back to see bulldozers and traffic diversions at least for the next fifteen years.
